Gartner® 2022 Market Guide for Workforce Management Applications Praises Modern WFM Suites
Workforce management applications can transform business and HR operations by supporting new ways of working.
As technology advances and workforce management continues to incorporate AI and EX, workforce management has grown from a system of record and operation into a system of differentiation and transformation.
According to the recently released 2022 edition Gartner® Market Guide for Workforce Management Applications, by 2025, 80% of large enterprises with hourly paid workers will have invested in WFM to support employee experience and/or digital workplace initiatives.

Gartner® 2022 Market Guide for Workforce Management Applications
This new research examines how modern WFM is moving forward, and what organisations need to consider before investing.
The report surfaces several important trends that decision makers should be aware of as they determine their needs for workforce management (WFM) solutions in the next year:
- Though HCM suites offer some WFM capabilities, they are not as robust as dedicated standalone WFM solutions. HCM suites on average still source 20-30% of their HR requirements from other solutions
- Leading-edge workforce management (WFM) solutions can now be configured to reduce avoidable attrition among frontline and hourly workers by delivering flexibility in working patterns and “continuous listening” analysis through prebuilt or integrated surveying tools
- The outage of the Kronos Private Cloud (KPC) products caused by a ransomware attack is prompting customers to accelerate their migration away from legacy WFM Applications
- A shortage of workers and other market forces (such as supply chain interruptions and limited product availability) in many sectors and geographies have prompted investment in advanced scheduling and planning functions so existing workers are deployed as effectively as possible.
According to the report, Gartner has observed increased activity in the WFM market from “new work hub” application vendors that we feel is geared towards the needs of desked workers, while existing WFM vendors have been focusing on expanding the employee experience and communication capabilities of their products for both desked and deskless employee populations—like WorkForce Software’s own WorkForce Experience.

Reports from the preceding years have all followed the same trends. The convergence of technological innovation and changes in employee expectations are paving the way for a paradigm shift in workforce management digitisation. This optimised work philosophy demands tools and solutions which prioritise the employee experience, incorporate more flexible scheduling and retains valuable workers. These empowered workers are a net benefit to their organisations, resulting in more productive work and satisfied customers. Modern workforce management tools like the WorkForce Suite are meeting these challenges head on and facilitating organisations to become employers of choice in the future of work.
Read the 2022 Gartner® Market Guide for Workforce Management Applications to learn why a robust WFM suite with strong overall functionality, depth and broad industry usage is preferable to an HCM vendor for organisations that want to stay at the forefront of workforce innovation.
